people died. that is more than 50% of the entire total population who died in new york city during hurricane sandy in october. this borough was devastated. staten island is used to being ignored because it's the smallest borough and it is not being ignored anymore. they're doing a great job of clearing this street so looks like they've had about 8 to 10 inches. the winds haven't been that heavy compared to connecticut, massachusetts and rhode island and a lot of people here who were anxious before this are breathing a sigh of relief. right here you can see there were many houses in this block that were destroyed. this was a house when hurricane sandy came through and no longer is. it is rubble. the house right next door was heavily damaged and people have been busily repairing it hoping to move in this week. it looks like they won't be able because they were afraid of the blizzard and hope to move in monday they were telling us. they've had a lot of tough times lately. they're very grateful at this point it doesn't appear the storm is as serious in this particular area as they thou

you think the city's response has been so far to the blizzard? >> it's been great. they have given us a lot of notice and the signs on the highways and the emergencies on the internet and other signs across the city. it's been -- they have prepared us well. >> i know you guys also stocked up on supplies. earlier, some of the supermarkets in the city were running out of milk, running out of bread. i think you have plenty of other types of supplies to keep you busy. >> we might have other supplies to keep us busy, but we are also, you know, do have supplies and water and things like that. but you know, we are trying to realize that we will be here for the weekend and trying to make sure we have everything that will keep us sustainable through that time period. >> they were telling me earlier, anderson, they hadn't seen snow like this in a few years? >> long time. >> a few years, gut obviously, we still have a lot more to go before the night is over. >> jason, we'll be checking with you. we'll be on the air for two hours and more coverage after that, so all night long. a short drive down

of the snow is east of new york city. everywhere you see pink through here, that's a foot of snow or more, and the purple is 20 to 30 inches of snow. that's from portland, maine, to boston, to providence, that's still to come. you already have 6 on the ground. there's plus 20. that's still a good snowfall. albany, you'll see about 6 to 10 more. down toward new york city, it appears you're almost in this dry area where there will be 8 to your north, 4 to your south, but not a lot more to come still in the city compares to what is on long island, over a foot still to come here. and this is the danger zone, just snowing everywhere out here. it's coming down in buckets because at the low comes through here, its closest position is going to be to boston, not new york city. that's why snow is not going to be as heavy in the city as in boston because the low is much closer there. then by tomorrow afternoon, literally, this thing is gone. saturday, 4:00, 5:00, the snow is completely over. only the wind is left. erin. >> what's the bottom line? there have been competing models. someone said the eu

not otherwise see. that's why i love my job. yesterday, i learned what a great city mobile, alabama, is. it's alabama's major port. it's very pretty when you fly into it by air. it looks like a mini empire state building when you fly in. it's a major ship building hub, and now it's an airplane manufacturing hub. airbus is builts in mobile, and they're going to produce 40 to 50 airplanes a year. that's a big deal. airbus referred to the tradition of beauty and charm in the release, describing why it picks the city for such a major investment, and airbus is right. you have seen some of the pictures. it is a really pretty town. america's first mardi gras, by the way, ever held in mobile. and the drive from the airport, about ten miles from the airport to the port, even past the strip malls that every town in america has, was truly pretty. spanish moss draped across the bows, and beautiful southern style buildings, mansions, and even stores. america is so full of great cities, and we are lucky to get to see them. here is to beautiful mobile, on a wonderful weekend. thanks so much for watching.

badge was also found in the city. but dorner's shooting spree may have started days ago here in irvine. on sunday morning, monica quan, the daughter of a police official named in his manifest oh, was shot and killed along with her fiance while sit in their car. on wednesday, police officially named dorner as the suspect. quan, who was 27, was the daughter of retired los angeles police officer randall quan. in dorner's alleged online rantings, he blamed randall quan for mishandling the appeal for his termination. dorner lost his appeal in 2011. before monica quan was killed, dorner allegedly made this threat in his writings. i never had the opportunity to have a family of my own. i'm terminating yours. police here know what they are up against. neighborhoods are on lockdown, intersections sealed off. officers on edge. so much so that two undercover lapd officers opened fire on a pickup truck they thought was dorner's. turns out it was two women delivering newspapers. one was reportedly shot in the hand. the other in the back. but they'll be okay. meantime, the lapd says it's doing all i

the city. he's stuck. he came into this church parking lot. was going to plow it, got halfway through, but the conditions proved to be too much, so he's been struggling to get out of that particular position for the past 20 minutes or so. but again, anderson, there is a fleet of some 5,000 vehicles like this that are out on the streets throughout the state, plowing roads. plowing the primary routes, plowing parking lots and secondary routes like the one that you see here. looks like he's finally going to make his way out of here, but we're going to move back just a little bit. as you know, anderson, in addition to the fleet of equipment that they have out in the streets, the governor has also enacted a plan banning basically all vehicles on the streets except for emergency vehicles. that has certainly helped. it's kept a number of people off the street out here in boston, in massachusetts, as the storm continues to barrel down. i can tell you just from the experience here, it's an icy, wet, blinding, bitter type of snow. it just hits your face, it's painful being out here. so this is
